Summer Skincare Guide for Men

The Daily Summer Skincare Routine Guide

Summer is the most anticipated season of the year. But with summer comes the early sunrises, the scorching heat, and longer daytimes. Consequently, as you have fun and toil under the glaring sun, you sweat profusely and your skin becomes oily. Sweat and oil block your skin pores, cause residue buildup and lead to pimples and acne. But you don't want that, right? That’s why you should have a rockstar summer skin care routine to protect your skin. Here are five summer skincare tips for men to help you maintain your glow.

Daily deep face wash

If you want to keep your face clean, pimple-free, and acne-free during summer, deep wash your face at least twice daily with a facial cleanser; in the morning and in the evening or before bed. Washing your face gets rid of dirt and impurities that accumulate on your skin when you sweat. Dirt and impurities are the major causes of pimples and acne.

Stay hydrated

Did you know that water makes 64 percent of your skin? The significance of water to your skin cannot be understated.  Not only does drinking enough water help your skin get rid of bacteria and impurities, but it also improves your skin’s density and thickness.  A 2015 study by Clinical Cosmetic and Investigational Dermatology revealed that drinking higher amounts of water improved skin physiology and hydration. Dehydrated skin on the other hand is itchy, dry, flaky, and looks old. That’s why you should drink a lot of water especially during summer since you lose a lot of water sweating.

Wear sunscreen

There's more to summer skincare for men than daily deep face wash and staying hydrated. Applying sunscreen is the icing on the cake. Walking out of your house without sunscreen after washing, moisturising, and exfoliating your skin is the worst thing you can do to your skin during summer. Why? The excess sun exposure promotes skin aging and skin cancer. Sunscreen protects your skin from extreme UV light. Therefore, if you want your skin to remain youthful, wear sunscreen and spend the least amount of time under the scorching summer sun.

Moisturise your skin

Moisturising your skin after washing your face, shaving, or exfoliating is necessary during summer. Applying a moisturiser keeps your skin hydrated throughout the day and restores lost water.

But how many times should you moisturise in a day during summer?

This depends on your skin type. If you have severely dry skin, ensure to moisturise at least twice a day. If you have normal skin or combination skin, you can get away with moisturising your skin only twice a day.

Exfoliate regularly

The excess sweating during summer necessitates regular skin exfoliation. This is because if left unchecked, your sweat accumulates into bacteria and impurities that block your skin pores resulting in pimples, acne, and dead cells. Similarly, when you have oily skin, your face looks shiny and grimy. You can get rid of these oils and dirt and free your skin from pimples and acne through skin exfoliation. A regular face scrub will get you through summer.

The worry of pimples and acne shouldn't stop you from having a wonderful summer. The five summer skin care tips discussed above have been tested and proven to work. They’ll help you maintain your skin complexion, texture, moisture, tone, and smoothness despite the summer heat. However, if you have extra sensitive skin and get sunburned easily, don't bask in the sun for longer periods.
